This Privacy Policy explains how AlignRole handles personal information when you use our UK-focused career development website and signed-in workspace. It describes the current AlignRole service as implemented today.

1. Who we are

AlignRole is a career development platform that helps people in the United Kingdom understand their skills, explore career directions, build CVs, track applications and practise interview questions.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, AlignRole provides this service. If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your personal information, contact us at hello@alignrole.co.uk.

This document is an operational website privacy notice. It is not a substitute for professional legal advice.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to your use of the AlignRole website, account sign-up, sign-in, password reset, signed-in career tools and account deletion.

It does not cover third-party websites you may reach through links on AlignRole, such as Civil Service or GOV.UK resources linked from Interview Coach.

3. Information we collect

We collect and store only the information needed to provide the AlignRole service. The categories below reflect the current implementation.

Account and authentication information

  • Email address and password (password is handled securely by our authentication provider; AlignRole does not store your password in plain text)
  • Authentication session information needed to keep you signed in
  • Account creation date and authentication activity handled by our provider

Profile information

  • Full name and preferred or display name
  • Current career status and career goal

Career Discovery information

  • Your questionnaire answers about experience, skills, preferences and goals
  • Generated career guidance results produced by AlignRole’s transparent scoring model (not external AI)
  • Assessment status (for example, in progress or completed)

CV information

  • CV titles, templates, draft/completed status and structured CV content you enter (including personal details, employment history, education, skills and other sections you choose to add)

Applications information

  • Job titles, employers, reference numbers, advert URLs, dates, application status, next actions and notes you record in Applications

Interview practice information

  • Interview type, question category, target role, organisation, practice question text, your written answer, and practice session status (in progress or completed)

Subscription and billing information

  • Subscription plan, status, billing-period dates and cancellation flags stored in AlignRole
  • Stripe customer and subscription identifiers needed to manage your subscription
  • Payment-card and billing details entered at checkout, processed and stored by Stripe (not your full payment-card details in AlignRole)

Technical information

  • Standard connection and security information processed by our hosting and database providers when you use the service
  • Information stored locally in your browser only in limited fallback circumstances (see Cookies and local browser storage)

AlignRole does not use advertising trackers, marketing analytics platforms, or external AI services to process your career content.

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by Stripe on our behalf. AlignRole does not store your complete payment-card details.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your AlignRole account
  • Provide signed-in access to your career workspace
  • Save, load and display your profile, Career Discovery, CVs, applications and interview practice
  • Show your dashboard progress and workspace status
  • Process subscription checkout, billing status and plan access where you choose a paid plan
  • Send authentication-related emails such as account confirmation and password reset messages through our authentication provider
  • Protect the service, enforce access controls and maintain security
  • Delete your account and associated saved data when you request account deletion

We use your information because it is necessary to provide the service you request and, where applicable, to pursue our legitimate interests in operating a secure career-development platform. Where consent is required by law, we will rely on consent.

5. Service providers

AlignRole uses Supabase as its infrastructure provider for authentication, database storage and secure server-side account deletion through a deployed Edge Function. Supabase processes and stores account and saved career data on our behalf.

AlignRole also loads the Supabase browser library from jsDelivr (a public content delivery network) so the website can connect securely to Supabase from your browser.

If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe processes payments and related billing information on our behalf. Stripe’s handling of payment data is governed by Stripe’s own privacy policy and terms.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your saved career content with advertisers.

6. Data storage and security

Your saved AlignRole data is stored in Supabase databases protected by row-level security so authenticated users can access only their own records.

We use industry-standard authentication and encrypted connections appropriate to the service. No method of online storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

AlignRole does not expose secret server credentials in the public website code. Account deletion is performed through a secure server-side function that verifies your identity before deleting your account.

7. How long we keep information

We keep your account and saved career data while your AlignRole account remains active and as needed to provide the service.

If you delete your account, your AlignRole account and saved career data listed in this policy are removed from the active application database through the account deletion process described below.

Our infrastructure providers may retain limited backup, log or operational records for a period according to their own systems and policies. Those records are outside direct user control in the AlignRole application.

8. Account deletion

You can delete your AlignRole account from Account & Settings. When deletion succeeds, your authentication account is removed and the following saved AlignRole data associated with your account is automatically deleted from the active application database:

  • Profile information
  • Career Discovery assessments and results
  • Saved CV documents
  • Job application records
  • Saved interview practice sessions

AlignRole also removes user-specific CV fallback data stored locally in your browser for that account where the deletion flow completes successfully. If you have saved letter-template drafts locally in that browser (under keys beginning with alignrole-letter-draft-), those drafts are cleared from that browser as part of the same successful account-deletion flow.

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone through AlignRole.

9. Your privacy rights

Under applicable UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you may have rights including:

  • Access — request a copy of personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information (you can also update much of your profile directly in AlignRole)
  • Deletion — ask us to delete personal information, including by using account deletion where appropriate
  • Restriction — ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests in certain circumstances
  • Data portability — request a copy of certain information in a structured, commonly used format where applicable

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, please contact us first using the details above so we can try to resolve the issue.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

11. Cookies and local browser storage

AlignRole does not currently use analytics cookies, advertising cookies or a cookie consent banner for marketing tracking.

The service does use browser storage needed for operation:

  • Authentication session storage — Supabase stores session information in your browser so you can remain signed in securely
  • Local CV fallback storage — if remote CV storage is temporarily unavailable, AlignRole may store CV fallback data locally in your browser under keys beginning with alignrole-cv-. This is user-specific and used only for CV Builder resilience
  • Letter-template draft storage — if you use the Letter Template Library, draft field values may be saved locally in your browser under keys beginning with alignrole-letter-draft-. This is device-specific and is cleared from that browser when account deletion completes successfully
  • Temporary notices — AlignRole may use short-lived session storage (for example, after account deletion) to show a one-time message on the next page you visit

12. Children

AlignRole is intended for adults and older teenagers making career decisions. It is not directed at young children. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If changes are significant, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
